Dodsland and Kerrobert Selected to Host 2027 Hockey Day in Saskatchewan

Dodsland and Kerrobert Selected to Host 2027 Hockey Day in Saskatchewan

KERROBERT, Sask. – Hockey Saskatchewan is proud to announce that Hockey Day in Saskatchewan (HDIS), presented by Keyera, is coming to Dodsland and Kerrobert after the communities were chosen to co-host the 19th edition of the multi-day celebration from January 13 to 17, 2027.

The two communities will take centre ice on Saturday, January 16, 2027, for the official Hockey Day in Saskatchewan festivities, with a full lineup of events and celebrations to be announced in the coming months.

The official HDIS marquee matchups scheduled at Kerrobert Memorial Arena on Jan. 16 include:

  • 1:00 p.m. – Female Under-18 AAA: Saskatoon Stars vs. Swift Current Wildcats
  • 4:00 p.m. – Male Under-18 AAA: Notre Dame Hounds vs. Battlefords Stars
  • 7:30 p.m. – Junior A: Kindersley Klippers vs. Nipawin Hawks

Located approximately 25 kilometres apart, the two hockey communities have forged an even stronger connection since the original Dodsland Sports Centre was destroyed by fire in July 2025. In the aftermath of the loss, Kerrobert opened its doors to Dodsland teams, helping ensure a combined 360 minor hockey players could continue playing the game they love.

"The strength of hockey has always been its ability to bring people together, and this upcoming event will be a celebration of that," said Kelly McClintock, General Manager of Hockey Saskatchewan. "When Dodsland lost its arena, Kerrobert stepped up in a remarkable way to support players, families and volunteers. It's a story of resilience, generosity and neighbours helping neighbours, and we're excited to shine a spotlight on two communities that embody the very best of Saskatchewan hockey."

All proceeds raised through the 2027 Hockey Day in Saskatchewan will support the continued rebuilding of the Dodsland Sports Centre while also funding upgrades to the Kerrobert Memorial Arena.

"Being selected to host Hockey Day in Saskatchewan 2027 is an incredible honour for our communities. Hockey has always been at the heart of life in our rural communities, bringing families, friends, and neighbours together both on and off the ice. This event represents the dedication of our volunteers, the strength of our communities, and the passion that so many young players have for the game," said Amy Sittler, on behalf of the 2027 HDIS Host Committee.

"After the challenges we've faced with the loss of the Dodsland arena, this opportunity is especially meaningful. The support we received from the community of Kerrobert during that time showed us what hockey and community are truly about. Hosting this event together gives us the chance not only to celebrate the game we love and raise funds to help get the Dodsland arena up and running again, but also to give back to a community that stepped up and helped us when we needed it most. We are proud to welcome athletes, families, and fans from across Saskatchewan and showcase the spirit, resilience, and hospitality that make our communities so special."

The host committee will mark the HDIS announcement with members of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League's Kindersley Klippers at 1:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2026, at Kerrobert Composite School. The event will feature floor hockey activities, community representatives and special guests.

Last season, Avonlea hosted the 18th Hockey Day in Saskatchewan and raised a record $248,000 for local rink improvements. Since its inception in 2008, the event has generated more than $1.85 million in support of hockey-related projects throughout the province.

The selection of Dodsland and Kerrobert marks the fourth time Hockey Day in Saskatchewan has been hosted in Zone 7, following Unity (2008), St. Walburg (2014) and Hillmond (2020).
