The Saskatchewan Hockey Association (SHA) has announced the postponement of its annual event, Hockey Day in Saskatchewan (HDIS). The event was to be held on the weekend of January 15–17, 2021, but due to safety concerns, uncertainty surrounding large scale events, public restrictions and the number of visitors from various communities that attend the event, SHA and the host community have made the decision to postpone HDIS until 2022. The event is destined for zone #1 in the south-east portion of the province where four (4) different communities submitted bids to host the marquee event. The Saskatchewan Hockey Association is proud to announce that the community of Radville has won the bid to host the next Hockey Day in Saskatchewan on the weekend of January 14-16, 2022.
“It is unfortunate that we won’t be able to host a Hockey Day in Saskatchewan weekend this season in Radville. Given all the uncertainty, the SHA and host community both felt it was best for everyone involved if we postponed the event until 2022 where we hope to be in a better position to host a great event.” – Kelly McClintock, SHA’ General Manager
The annual event brings together teams from a variety of different leagues, such as the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, Saskatchewan Male U18 “AAA” Hockey League, Saskatchewan Female U18 “AAA” Hockey League and the local Senior League. In addition, the event typically incorporates an SHA Cross-Ice Jamboree, local Minor Hockey games and a banquet with special guest speakers. This past season, Hillmond was able to raise a record breaking $207,000 for their community to assist with replacing the rink boards at the Wade Redden Arena. An announcement with schedule and details for the 2022 Hockey Day in Saskatchewan will be announced closer to the event date.
